So. I was perusing the home video releases for the month of September and I came across something magical. Something I didn’t know existed until today. It has swordplay. It has science fiction. It has Japanese idols. It has those idols kicking and kneeing and beating up guys left and right. It is a wonderful thing called Danger Dolls and it is being released in the United States on home video on September 23. Please take a look at the trailer (in Japanese).
Here is the trailer in English, though it’s of considerably less quality.
The Japanese title of the movie is shoujo wa isekai de tatakatta 「少女は異世界で戦った」which, in my limited Japanese, I understand to mean something like “Girls Fought in Another Dimension” or “Other Dimensional Girl Fight” or something like that. Hey, I’m still learning the language. Regardless, it still sounds fantastic.
So yeah, I’ll be watching this in about two weeks. You can expect a review in a timely fashion. I’ve decided to try and keep up with the new home video releases so I can give recommendations for those of you out there looking to watch something over the weekend. This week I picked up a found-footage horror movie written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait called Willow Creek. Expect to see the review before the weekend and my recommendation of whether or not you should invest your time in it.
I can already safely recommend another movie that was released on home video this week, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I saw it in the theater and it was quite good. I enjoyed it more than the first Cap movie. It keeps the momentum of the Marvel Cinematic Universe strong and sets up more pieces that will likely develop into great payoffs. It’s a great standalone movie too though, so give it a watch.
But yeah, so Danger Dolls! Is anyone else as excited about this as I am? No? Well that’s unfortunate. You’re going to have to put up with at least one more post about this movie when I review it in a few weeks. Until then, hopefully these pages will tide you over.
